Annoucing a new Grand Champion at Brittemar!

Mina is now Grand Champion Brittemar's High Flyer! Mina finished her grand championship at the tender age of 13 months by going Best of Breed three out of four days at the Cool Cluster in Grayslake, Illinois at the end of January 2018.  Mina is by Grand Champion Border Lane JP Talisman Forever and out of Ch. Sporting Fields Royal Gem. Mina is stepping out of the conformation ring for now to begin her obedience training. We look forward to launching Mina into a new endeavor. One of the things we love most about Border Collies is their versatility. They excel in so many venues. There is always a new adventure out there waiting for you and your Border Collie!

Introducing the Newest Brittemar Champion

We are pleased to announce that Mina is now Ch. Brittemar's High Flyer. She finished her championship at 10 months of age at the La Porte Kennel Club show under Judge Kenneth A. Buxton. She was beautifully handled from start to finish by one of her favorite people, handler Kim Halcom. We are very proud of Mina's accomplishment and see a bright future in store for her. Mina is out of Rushie, Ch. Sporting Fields Royal Gem and sired by GCHB Ch. Border Lane JP Talisman Forever. Congratulations to Kim and Mina!

Upcoming Litter

Elsa, Ch. Brittemar's Let It Go, has been bred to Merk, Ch. Solaras-Callista Dark Horse o'Sportingfields. The litter is due Nov. 21st. This should be a very nice litter of black and white puppies with great temperaments and gorgeous movement. Merk is the sire of GCHG Brittemar Sportingfields Right At Home HIC who retired last spring as the #2 Border Collie (All Breed) in the country. We are looking forward to the arrival of these puppies just in time for Thanksgiving!

Border Collie National Specialty 2017 Results

Brittemar-bred dogs had an outstanding National this year at Purina Farms. Sportingfields Dare to Dream o'Brittemar, a Sugar son by GCH Ch. Hot Shot Dare Ewe was Reserve Winners Dog out of the 9-12 month puppy class. He is a gorgeous young dog with superb movement. We expect to see lots of good things from this puppy in the future. Plans are in the works to repeat the Sugar x Hottie breeding this winter.

Sporting Fields All That Glitters, a Rushie x Troy daughter, was Best of Winners. She is a lovely bitch with great type and movement. She is a litter mate to Brittemar's Let It Go (Elsa), who is being bred this fall to Ch.Solaras-Callista Dark Horse o'Sportingfields.

Brittemar's High Flyer made her National debut in the 9-12 month puppy class and came out the winner! Mina took everything in stride and showed very well for handler Kim Halcom. She loves to show and can't wait to get in the ring. She is definitely a young prima donna!

News from New England

We were happy to get the news that Alice, Brittemar's A Mad Tea Party, went Best Of Winners at the Southern New England Border Collie specialty. It’s a wonderful win for that girl who is owned and loved by Elissa Carr. Alice went on the next day to repeat her win. Alice is a sister to Glimmer and Elsa. Congratulations to Elissa and Alice!

Skyler is a new champion!

CH Brittemar Fast N Furious, CGCA, TKN, TDI finished his championship this summer under Judge Mr. James Moses at the Blackhawk Kennel Club show in Belvidere, Illinois. Skyler is handled by Kristen Laue and owned by Linda Moir. We are very proud of all this boy has accomplished. He started off life as "Little Peanut" because when he was born he was the smallest puppy in the litter.
Now, Skyler is at work on his Grand Championship as well as continuing  his work as a certified therapy dog. He recently received his Novice Trick Dog title and can entertain the patients he visits on his therapy rounds. Congratulations to Linda and Kristen on the fabulous job they have done with Skyler!

Dera's Retirement

Congratulations Dera and Kim on a very successful and exciting show career!

Dera began her show career at the age of 6 months by going Best of Winners at the National Parent Club Specialty in 2013 and she has never looked back. The last 3 1/2 years have seen Dera expertly and exclusively handled by Kim Halcom to a Reserve Best in Show, multiple group wins, and close to 100 group placements. Along the way, Dera was Best of Opposite Sex at the Border Collie National Specialty and Parent Club Specialty and winner of the Top Twenty Border Collie competition in 2016.

Dera loved her time in the show ring, traveling with Kim in the motor home, and getting lots of love and attention from her fans. She always gave it her all and I couldn't have asked for more. Well done "Little D"!

Border Collie National Specialty 2016 Results Are In!

Brittemar Border Collies had a wonderful time at the Border Collie Society of America National Specialty held at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, Mo. on Sept. 5-11, 2016.  Dera,  Grand Champion Gold Brittemar Sportingfields Right At Home HIC,  led the way by winning the Top Twenty competition. The Top Twenty is an invitational show for the 20 top ranked BCs in the country and so we were thrilled that Dera was honored with this prestigious win.
The next day was the National Specialty and Dera went Best of Opposite Sex under British judge Joanne Ratcliffe. She followed that win by going BOS again under British judge Ross Green. Dera is currently the #1 bitch in all breed rankings in the U.S. We are very proud of all of Dera's accomplishments.

Her sister Fable, Ch. Brittemar Sportingfields Tall Tale at Solachi ,won the Bronze Award in the Janet Larson Versatility competition. This competition awards dogs that compete in multiple venues and Fable excelled at the herding and agility parts of the competition. Fable is owned, loved, and beautifully trained by Jenna Klemp of Solachi Border Collies. We couldn't be prouder of this tremendous team!

Brittemar's Driving Miss Maisie and her owner Nancy Romanek did a fantastic job at their first specialty and were the winners of the Amateur Owner Handler class at the National Specialty. Congratulations to Maisie and Nancy!

We would like to thank all the people that made this National Specialty 2016 such a great show: our handler Kim Halcom, who does a flawless job presenting our dogs, Nancie Mages, Dera's co-owner, who supports Dera in all her endeavors and the awesome owners of Brittemar Border Collies who have given them such loving homes. We couldn't do it without you!

Back-to-back group wins for Dera

What an exciting weekend we had in Racine, Wisconsin with back-to-back group wins for Dera. She and her handler, Kim Halcom, are having a wonderful year and we are eagerly anticipating the National Specialty to be held in September at Purina Farms, Gray Summit, Missouri.

An update from Brittemar's Swiss outpost

I wanted to share this picture from my daughter, who lives in Switzerland with her Brittemar dog. Murphy is taking in the view from the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces over Lake Geneva.

Girl Power!

Thanks to co-owner Nancie Mages for this latest beautiful ad featuring Dera, which appears in the May issue of Canine Chronicle.

Thanks to the new puppy owners!

We are happy to report that all thepuppies from our winter litters have gone to their new homes. I want to thank all the wonderful new owners who are giving our puppies loving homes. We are very grateful for all the thought and preparation that they have put into their decision to add a new member to their families. Getting a new puppy is not a spur of the moment decision and often our puppy owners wait for months for the right puppy to come along. We thank them for their patience and look forward to continuing our relationship with them throughout the life of their new puppy.

Puppies Have Arrived!

Brittemar Border Collies has had a busy holiday season with the arrival of two litters. The first litter, with sire Grand Champion Sportingfields Trojan Troy and dam Ch. Sportingfields Royal Gem (Rushie), arrived shortly after Christmas. This litter had eight puppies, including three chocolates, and all are growing up so quickly.

A litter of four black and white boys sired by Troy and out of
Ch. Sportingfields Home Spun Heritage (Eva) followed about a week later. We can't wait to see what this breeding produces.

We have a pretty busy show schedule coming up too in the next couple of months so we have our hands full but we love it!

Please check out our Facebook page at Brittemar Border Collies for more updates, pictures and video.

New Champion

Sportingfields Brown Sugar at Brittemar finished her championship at the North Star Herding Group Specialty in St. Paul Minnesota this past weekend with a four point major. We are very proud of Sugar’s accomplishments and are looking forward to more good things to come. Many thanks to her handler Kim Halcom who handled Sugar to her championship.

Dera's News

Dera had back to back Group 2's at the Minneapolis Kennel Club Show in Shakopee, MN. Thank you so much, Judges Mr. Robert Vandiver and Mr. Merle Taylor.

Now Dera is heading to warmer climes in Orlando Florida for AKC/Eukanuba National Championship Dog Show, Dec. 12 &13, 2015. It should be a fun show with a large entry of almost 5000 dogs. The show will be live streamed and shown on cable TV so check it out if you have a chance.

Dera's One-Two Punch

Dera is still on the road and racking up the group wins and placements. Here are pictures from her Group One win at the Kankakee River Valley Kennel Club Show under judge Mr. Fred Bassett on October 11 and a Group Twop lacement under judge Mrs. Kimberly Meredith-Cavanna on October 10. We are so proud of this young dog and her many accomplishments. Thank you to all the judges who agree she's a very special girl!

Brittemar goes Alpine!

My daughter shared this picture of her Brittemar dog, Murphy, posing in front of the iconic Eiger and Monch peaks in the Jungfrau region of the Bernese Oberland. Although Murphy has lived in Switzerland for about a year, this was his first trip to the Alps. Nonetheless, he handled riding on such exotic conveyances as cog railways and cable cars with complete aplomb and charmed more than a few of his fellow tourists. What a great family dog!
